Energy Storage

Energy storage is the capture of energy produced at one time for use at a later time to reduce imbalances between energy demand and energy production

Around 33% of the UK's electricity came from renewable sources last year. That figure is increasing as new solar and wind farms come online. Large battery storage stations will allow for the storage of electricity during peak generation times and its release when supply levels drop.

The major growth in renewables connecting to the grid network has resulted in a greater demand in energy storage.  Technologies such as battery storage support peak demand management and power equalisation. These grid services are being developed beside existing grid substations or alongside new energy generation projects.

Neo Environmental have significant experience in this sector having worked on over 1GW of battery storage including projects of 5MW up to 100MW in scale. These battery storage projects include some of the largest in the UK and Ireland.

The team has managed and completed the full suite of works for both stand-alone developments (adjacent the grid) and co-location projects, e.g. combined commercial solar farms and energy storage facilities (ESFs).

CASE STUDIES

Mannington 50MW Battery Storage Project

Neo Environmental were involved in various stages of the 49.9MW Mannington Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) from initial constraint analysis and site suitability assessment to planning and condition compliance. The Energy Storage Facility is located in Greenbelt in Dorset and our planning team successfully argued a case for Very Special Circumstances (VSC) for the project. […]

Horsepasture 150MW Battery & Solar Project

Neo Environmental undertook all work for the 3 phases of the Proposed Development which included, feasibility studies, planning and the full suite of environmental and technical assessments. This include two separate solar applications of circa 50MW (original site and extension) and the 100MW battery storage project, all of which were consented. The team co-ordinated and […]

Slanemore 150MW Battery & Solar Farm

This include two separate solar applications of circa 50MW (original site and extension) and the 100MW battery storage project, all of which were consented. The team co-ordinated and […]

Hull 100MW Battery & Solar Farm

Neo Environmental are delighted to have started 2022 with an approval via a delegated decision for a 100MW co-located solar and battery storage project near Hull for its client Albanwise. Neo Environmental done all of the planning, public consultation and environmental work for this large project, including the design, ecology, archaeology (including a geophysical survey), […]
