Neo Environmental are currently undertaking the Ecological Clerks of Works (ECoW) for the Water of Leith flood defence scheme on behalf of McLaughlin and Harvey in Murrayfield, Edinburgh. Work undertaken so far includes pre-construction otter surveys, ECoW supervised tree felling and vegetation clearance in line with the SHN European protected species licence, as well as advising and overseeing the implementation of an otter holt.

Ariel inspection for potential bat roosts was also undertaken within the site, with mitigation measures implemented, including supervised “soft felling” of trees, and erecting bat boxes. In addition, fish habitat assessment has also been undertaken, which has informed the fish rescue which will be undertaken at the time of construction.
