Keeping on ornithological news, there was a rare sighting of the Black-browned Albatross at the RSPB site in Bempton Cliffs (East Yorkshire) recently and some keen birdwatchers were there to photograph it.

Another shot from the ecology team today – this is a heron nest that we have been surveying and these absolutely stunning birds made an appearance at our last visit
A new Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) report predicts that the number of white-tailed eagles will increase over the next decade.
A little background info…
White-tailed eagles are the largest bird of prey in the UK and are specially protected. This species was made extinct in the early 20th century due to illegal prolonged persecution, and has been re-introduced to the UK through a number of conservation projects.
Ecology news just in…
The first of this seasons pinkfooted geese have arrived at the Montrose Basin (Angus).
These geese along with other migrants are found within the UK over autumn and winter months, and are often a qualifying species for environmentally designated sites. Now is a great time to discuss the ornithological requirements of projects to ensure that the autumn and winter survey seasons are not missed.
While out doing some site work for one of our solar farm projects in Ireland, one of our surveyors came across this grey partridge and its chicks nesting in the long grass.
Can you spot the chick in the plumage?
Fortunately the bird was not disturbed and the chicks will have fully fledged prior to any potential disturbance from future work. Solar farms when carefully planned and managed provide significant opportunities for ecological enhancement. Our ecologists, having worked on over 45 solar projects across the UK and Ireland to date, can help provide this input into projects, which can be done simply and cost effectively.
