Neo Environmental have been working hard in the final part of this year receiving consents for an 11.4MW solar farm in County Clare for Vento Ludens and a 100MW battery storage project for RES in County Kildare and have now consented over 400MW of battery storage projects and over 500MW of commercial solar in the Republic of Ireland.
The Clare solar farm and Kildare battery storage projects were consented without any request for further information and neither received any third party objections. The solar farm provided a number of complex issues including cumulative impacts with two adjacent wind farms; ecological consideration which required a full IVC (Irish Vegetation Classification) survey and invasive species survey; as well as access constraints that necessitated an Automatic Traffic Count (ATC’s) survey.
The 100MW battery storage project was designed to take cognisance of access constraints which resulted in tree and hedgerow removal. A preliminary bat roost survey identified the tree removal as having a negligible impact.
The Neo Environmental team in Ireland are working on a number of new solar, battery and wind developments, as well as residential, mixed-use and aggregate projects.

It was great to have our staff from Glasgow over to the Ballymena office for a day of in-house CPD training. We expect to continue and enhance our cross-office collaboration on projects across the UK and Ireland and the staff in Ballymena are due to make the return trip to Glasgow in the coming weeks.
As would be expected when a training event is held on a Friday staff who could, remained on for a company night out to experience some Irish hospitality! There were a few sore heads heading back to Scotland on Saturday.
Neo Environmental are delighted to have been included in the RTPI Planner magazine called ‘Environmental Planning: 2015 Sector Guide’. The article provides a brief outline of the company profile and our multi-disciplinary capabilities. The company has exhibited significant growth over the past 3 years which has been recognised by one of our director’s shortlisting for the Young Green Energy Awards, various publications and numerous commissions across the UK and Ireland.
The article highlighted Neo Environmental’s involvement in various project types including residential, mixed-use and infrastructural projects. It made reference to large residential projects in Ayrshire and Oban, two full EIAs for Quarries in Ireland, BREEAM work for a school in Slough, a utilities project in Cornwall and the A82 Road upgrade in Scotland. The article also outlined our significant involvement in renewable energy projects.
Neo Environmental are constantly expanding our capabilities and service offerings, with our environmental consultants currently working on a multitude of project types.
Last week, Lightsource Renewable Energy achieved consent for a 7.6MW solar farm near Milltown, Co. Antrim in Northern Ireland. Neo Environmental undertook all of the environmental assessment for the project including archaeology, ecology, landscape, traffic & transport, flood risk and tree surveys.
The site contained a recorded archaeological site and various ancient field boundary remains, which were mitigated as part of the design process in consultation with Lightsource and archaeologists at NIEA.
Swales were also designed by the Neo Environmental team to alleviate any flood risk potential. A Biodiversity Management Plan, which will enhance the overall ecological value of the site, was produced by our in-house ecologists as part of the development proposal.
Neo Environmental have produced similar reports for two further developments with Lightsource in Antrim, Northern Ireland and other projects for the company in England.
Please do not hesitate to contact Neo Environmental on 0141 773 62 62 for information on our various environmental services for solar farms.
