Neo Environmental were commissioned to undertake a programme of archaeological observation as part of a planning condition for a residential unit. The site lies within an area of historic medieval settlement with Iron Age and Romano-British activity also identified locally. An archaeological watching brief was therefore required during initial construction works.

Neo Environmental’s involvement:
Neo Environmental initially produced the Written Scheme of Investigation (WSI) for the required watching brief before undertaking the subsequent monitoring on the 19th January and 12th February 2016. Excavation for the foundations and regarding works revealed a deep overburden of soil probably related to the former use of the area as an allotment. The construction works were completed efficiently and no archaeological features or artefacts were encountered.
